If you come to this Mom and Pops Tips site often you will know that we travel often. We rack up a lot of miles for pleasure and work. In years past Pop’s employer would fly him business on the long haul trips. During the Obama years this disappeared.
Now we fly economy often and business/first less often. Recently some of the routes we have taken are Doha, Qatar (DOH) through Mumbai, India continuing to Kathmandu, Nepal (KTM) continuing to New Dehli, India (DEL) and returning to Doha, Qatar. This trip was business and first class. I will list a handful of other trips in the past few months below.
Often Qatar Airways is ranked Top 1 or so in the world. If it is not the top position I understand that Emirates will take the top spot. These are the two airlines we have been flying the most since we have been staying in the Middle East.
I will tell you know almost every airline outside of the USA Carriers are better than their USA counterparts. Even most of the Indian cheap carriers could beat out the likes of American, Delta, United, and so on. Therefore, if I knock Qatar Airways (QR) or Emirates (EK), they are far superior in service and offerings as well as on-time performance etc. than anything the USA Airlines have been providing. Take that into consideration.
Americans should really demand their airlines to take care of customers and not only stockholders (cough, cough), and do they really even take care of stockholders or just their CEO. Just saying an honest feeling. Who do the American based carriers serve? Not customers and as a recent stockholder of UAL, I could say not the stockholders either. Time to approve USA Carriers.
OK, Qatar Airlines quick review. I was going to take pictures of the food in economy, but honestly after some Melatonin I was out of it. I could have taken some but it wasn’t worth it. The food on economy from Doha to Miami was crap. Nothing a Top 1 airline should serve. The return from Miami to Doha was even worse. Want to sleep on airline flights like Pop, then click here.
The seats in economy were sufficient and no one was sitting next to me on either flight. As a big guy space is a commodity, thus I give Qatar Airways a thumbs up for this.
Qatar Airways almost always leaves on-time or early and arrives on-time or early. You never hear these airlines say they are waiting on crew (hint for US Carriers).
My connection from Miami to Orlando was painful. Miami can be a tough airport and you must get your bags and recheck them. Well My bags were damaged making it very tough for one person. I made it, although most couldn’t. Again, I am a big guy, and worry someone else would have really struggled.
I flew first class on American and was extremely disappointed in the First Class cabin service. It was rude. They also made me check my carry-on, which honestly was oversized but being First Class I could hope anyway. I was disappointed when I saw many other bags go back to economy that were similar in size as mine. Not a big deal, just something I hoped to avoid.
Orlando airport is very slow with bags. This should be improved as Orlando is a vacation capitol of the world and moving backs would make for a better feel right off the bat for this fun city.
The return in first class was better, the service was with a smile. Although I find it off on this 90 minute or so flight they can serve a meal to First Class, when the International Airlines such as Emirates and Qatar will serve a meal to all cabins on flights of 40 minutes.
All in All the point of this tip – Demand better service from US Based Carriers.
