There are many people around the world that struggle with sleeping. It can be a real miserable problem. If you have an issue with sleeping, you know what I mean.
There are people in my family that really struggle. I fortunately don’t have a huge problem, although do tend to wake up much earlier than I would prefer. I do travel a lot of international flights. I have been on flights that last from 14- 16 hours countless times. I find myself trying to get on the schedule of the place I am going. Thus, if it is daytime where I am landing, I try to stay awake but if it is night time, I do whatever it takes to sleep. Sleeping when it is time for me to wake up if hard, and so I take some sleep aids.
Therefore if you are an insomniac and have trouble sleeping or find yourself on long distance flights then then here are my top 3 sleep aids.
1. Kirkland Signature Sleep Aid
This is my favorite and probably one of the strongest over the counter sleep aids. It is also a great price and can be found here. I find this is good if I have at least 6 hours more to sleep before I must get up. I am a big guy and would guess that smaller people would need more time to wear off any grogginess. This really works, thus if you find yourself still awake at at 3am and need to be at work at 8am, this is most likely not the pill to be taking. But, if you have enough time to sleep and drink a cup of coffee int he morning, this may be the right sleep aid for you.
Here is a testimony from a self identified insomniac:
I have been taking this sleep aid for roughly four years and I have always bought the Kirkland brand and this size for the duration. I like that it comes in the double pack of 96. If you take it every night like I do it equates to a roughly 6-month supply. I prefer this sleep aid over Diphenhydramine as doxylamine succinate does not give me restless legs. Please note that while Benedryl (Diphenhydramine) has a half life of four hours Doxylamine succinate has a half life of 8 hours. This means that if you plan to sleep less than eight hours you might experience slight grogginess. f I have slept less than 8 hours I find that the grogginess is nothing a good cup of coffee can’t clear up.
In addition to using this as a sleep aid, I also use it as a decongestant and take it in conjunction with Claritin 24-hour because I find that my congestion is the worst first thing in the morning. Due to the fact that this is actually an antihistamine helps with decreasing the amount of congestion in my sinuses from filling up overnight.
I take the pill along with my nightly vitamins and find that it takes anywhere from 45 to 1 hour to really work its magic on me. I have problems falling asleep due to running thoughts and the inability to stop the racing mind. This pill literally closes my eyes for me so I don’t even have time to focus on my thoughts. This might be a con for those people who are sensitive to sleep aids, but it will be a godsend to those who have problems shutting down. One minute you are worrying over something and the next moment you are almost too sleepy to take off your glasses or put down your book.

2. Excedrin PM
I hvae used Excedrin PM often and normally find that I like it better than some of the others such as Advil PM or Tylenol PM. There are times where the others seem to work better but when given a choice I always choose Excedrin PM over the others. This may be to my past history of headaches. Makes sense right? I never even noticed that they advertised this as headache relief and sleep aid, but it seems like that is how it is done now.
I have used and liked Excedrin PM in the past but have not tried the one marketed as Excedrin PM Caffeine-Free Caplets for Headache Pain Relief and Nighttime Sleep-Aid, which you can find here.
If you aren’t concerned about headaches then you may like one of my other chosen aids which is Advil PM found here.
Recently due to my circumstances of being located in the Middle East and not at my home in the USA I have been taken more of the natural Melatonin. It has worked much better than I remembered it had in the past.
In fact, tomorrow when I fly from Qatar to the Florida I will only be taking Melatonin with me and not the others.
Melatonin is something your body produces. When you are baby it produced more and as you get older it drops off. Sad thing, really. Sorry about that, but I am not God. Melatonin normally builds throughout the night from what I understand and then drops off towards morning. It reaches a peak sometime in the middle of the night. Like I said, the older you get the less Melatonin you produce.
So, want something that your body should be producing anyway? Then you should try Melatonin, and I will tell you it works for me. It also comes in all sorts of easy flavors and dissolves in your mouth. It works. Try it and find it here.
I an not a doctor as you know, but I recommend you try not to take anything regularly. If you need something often, please talk to your doctor. As a Pop, I do think I know more, but from time to time a doctor may be right.
